In
her constant, undying pursuit of all things garden-related,
Tovah gets her hands dirty both outside and indoors. She is
a perennial, heirloom, vegetable and cottage gardener of fanatical
proportions, and is accredited with NOFA as an Organic Land
Care Professional. Beyond the garden outdoors, Tovah’s
areas of specialty also include decades of experience with houseplants
(she grows over 200 in her home). That passion for gardening
indoors led to her books, The Indestructible Houseplant (Timber
Press, 2015), The Unexpected Houseplant (Timber Press, 2012)
and The New Terrarium (Clarkson Potter/Publishers, 2009). Most
recently, a new title was added to her book publications. Gold
Medal award winning The Garden in Every Sense and Season (Timber
Press, 2018) describes how your garden can kindle the senses
on all layers to become more meaningful. These newest publications
are added to more than a dozen titles that Tovah has authored
including Tasha Tudor’s Garden (Houghton Mifflin, 1994).

Photography
With a lifetime spent behind the
lens, Tovah is now officially going professional. She knows
gardens, she loves gardens, and she is intimate with plants.
She sees the beauty and strives to capture the moment.
For 25 years, Tovah photographed
the Logee’s Greenhouse catalog. When she worked for the
Litchfield County Times’ arts monthly, her photographs
illustrated her articles and were often featured on their covers.
She has snapped photos illustrating her stories in Yankee Magazine’s
Gardener’s Guide and Northshore Magazine as well as the
images for her lectures, Facebook, and Instagram pages. With
the passing of collaborator/photographer Kindra Clineff, picking
up the camera helped process the grief. Now Tovah is making
her work as a garden photographer available to magazines, garden
designers, fellow gardeners who want to document their landscapes,
and anyone else who might be interested. Contact her at tovah@tovahmartin.com
for more information. She would love to chronicle your collaboration
with nature.
